GameTimeCT Top 10 Girls Basketball Poll (Jan 18): Unbeaten Ludlowe moves into second place

Photo of Scott Ericson

Unbeaten Ludlowe has moved into second place behind No. 1 Hamden and there was position shifting elsewhere. But otherwise the latest GameTimeCT Top 10 girls basketball poll featured all of the same teams from the previous week.

With a 51-38 loss to Sacred Heart Academy, Hand saw the week's most significant drop, but only from No. 2 to No. 5. Mercy, which lost to Hamden, stayed put at No. 3. Sacred Heart Academy moved up a spot to No. 5.

The only other movement was Immaculate and New London swapping spots at No. 9 and No. 10

After Hamden and Ludlowe, No. 7 Bacon Academy and unranked Northwestern are the other two undefeated teams remaining in the state as the season hits the midway point. Northwestern has not convinced voters it belongs in the Top 10, but may do so if it can beat Thomaston for a second time and knock off Bunnell out of the SWC this week.

This is the first week of 2023 that no ranked SCC teams will face each other. The SCC remains the top conference with four of the top five teams in the poll.

With New London and Bacon Academy ranked, the ECC is the only other conference with more than one team in the poll. New London lost twice in close on the road in New York City over the holiday weekend but, given the comopetition, remained in the Top 10.

Simsbury remains as the lone CCC representative, but EO Smith and Newington will be knocking on the door if another Top 10 team falters.
