After the past couple of weeks of CIAC football, there are a couple of different ways voters in the GameTimeCT Top 10 Football Poll could have gone.
There’s the tear-it-up tact, reevaluating 1-through-15, dropping those teams they’d ranked highly like Shelton and Trumbull and finding spots for the teams who beat them (and the teams who beat those teams: howdy, Notre Dame-West Haven, receiving votes for the first time since the preseason)
And, with apologies to Herb Brooks, there’s the “if we play 10 times, they might win nine” version, keeping those teams relatively high on their ballots, even higher than the likes of the North Havens and Staples teams that took them down.
Voters went for a variety of those tactics this week. At least one voter went one way with Shelton-North Haven and another with Staples-Trumbull.
When it sorted out, Southington remained on top with New Canaan not far behind, though the Blue Knights picked up a solid majority of first-place votes after last week’s three-way split.
Shelton dropped from third to ninth after its 18-10 loss to North Haven. Trumbull fell from seventh to 12th after Staples scored a late touchdown to break a tie.
