Milford Scouts schedule Thanks-for-Giving food drive

Milford Scouts will again lend helping hands to collect and sort food over a 48-hour period from noon on Friday, Nov. 14 to noon on Sunday, Nov. 16, so at the Milford area's less fortunate families can celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

Troop 1 of Milford will host the event.

The scouts will camp out at Milford's Wasson Field over two days, collecting and sorting food donations from residents and staffing tables at local supermarkets. The group will collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations, and all proceeds will go to the cause.

The Scouts hope to provide an estimated 350 Milford families with Thanksgiving meals as well as the Beth El Shelter and Milford Food Bank and various other food distribution charities.

Over the last nine years, Milford scouts have collected more than 70,000 pounds of food and 1,600 turkeys; and received more than $10,000 for the cause.

Individuals can also drop off food or money at one of the drop off points on the weekend of the event at Wasson Field, or one of Milford's Stop & Shop, ShopRite or Adams supermarkets.
