The Literacy Center of Milford will hold a Harvest Dinner Dance featuring the Rum Runners on Friday, Nov. 6, at Costa Azzurra Restaurant in Milford to help raise funds in support of the center’s literacy programs.

The event, filled with live music, buffet dinner, open bar and dancing, is expected to draw a crowd. Tickets are $50, and reservations can be made online or mailed to the center. Go to literacycenterofmilford.com for information, or call 203-878-4800.

The non-profit, community-based literacy agency continues to grow since its formation in 1994, under the leadership of agency president Martin O’Neill.

In 2014, the literacy  center tutored more than 100 students with almost 5,000 hours logged by its volunteers and tutors – a record that the organization says it intends to surpass at the conclusion of 2015 and beyond.

“Our dinner dance promises to be an unforgettable experience, and culminates a banner year for the Literacy Center of Milford and for our community,” said Tami Jackson, executive director.  “We hope everyone can make it — for the deserving cause of literacy.”

Since its formation, the center has expanded its basic reading, writing and math curriculum. The center also launched Superstar programs in collaboration with West Shore Middle School with a focus on child-parent “togetherness learning.”

“We expanded our Books for Birthday program to children in Milford and West Haven and plan to be in Stratford by the end of the year,” center officials said.

The Literacy Center of Milford is a 501 (c) non-profit organization serving Milford, West Haven and Stratford.
