Science in the News, Oct. 14 at 7 pm: How can oil and vinegar, germs, and our own immune system lead to a cure for cancer? By thinking like engineers, scientists have developed ground-breaking tools and technologies that use unusual and even counter-intuitive methods to help us eradicate cancer. Come listen as three Yale scientists discuss these medicines of the future. This program is free and open to the public.

Medicare Seminar Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. Free seminar, presented by Jim Lambert from First Choice Consulting, seeks to answer questions and make planning for supplemental insurance easier. Free.

The children’s department at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave., is holding events the next few weeks. For information call: 203-783-3304.

Toddler Time — Every Wednesday at 10am and 11am. For ages 2 and under with a caregiver.

Family Place — registration is open. This 4-week playgroup runs Thursdays October 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10:15-11:30am. Siblings ages 5 and under may attend. Space is limited and registration is required.

Star Wars Read Days — October 10 at 11am. Celebrate books, Jedis, Wookies and all things Star Wars. Library Green Screen fun, crafts and a meet & greet.

Chess Club —  Tuesday October 13 from 6:30pm-7:30pm  Sponsored by Milford’s Promise and The Milford Police Union, for players in grades K-12 of all skill levels. Sets will be provided or you may bring your own. Register by signing up in the Children’s Department or by calling (203) 783-3312.

PAWS to Read — Saturday October 17 at 2:30pm For children in grades K-5.  Kids are invited to read out loud to some special library friends—the four-legged kind. Space is limited and registration is required.

Music Together — Monday October 19 at 6:15pm. Experience the joy of family music with a free demonstration of the Music Together program. Register or call the Children’s Department at 203-783-3312.

Library Lock-in —  Friday October 23 from 6pm-9pm kids ages 9-13 are invited for a spooktacular evening after doors are locked. Pizza, donated by Milford Green Pizza and Restaurant, spooky stories, glow-in-the-dark crafts, green screen fun and hide & seek. Registration is required and space is limited. Creative writing for tweens — Wednesday October 28 from 6pm-7:30pm for ‘tweens ages 9-13. Each meeting will consist of writing prompts, peer workshopping & activities. Register.
