Arts Council offers new art classes

The Milford Arts Council is offering new art classes beginning in March.

Classes will be Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Fine Art Center, for six weeks from March 11 to April 15.

Classes include Expressionism in Oils. The class is open to all levels of painters and to anyone who ever wanted to experiment with oils.

Instructor Barbara Hart is a local artist specializing in impressionistic pastels, oils and watercolors of gardens and Polo ponies. A material list will be provided. Fee is $150 for six classes.

On Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., starting March 4, people can take part in BYOB Wine & Paint. Participants will be led step-by-step to create a painting in an evening. All supplies provided, except the wine. Fee is $30 drop-in, or a month pre-purchased, $100.

On Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for six weeks March 12 to April 16, the center will offer Drawing Foundation. Instructor and sculptor, Ivan Tirado, will provide lessons to learn and develop drawing skills based on observation and motor skills. Exercises include, drawing objects, understanding line quality, contour, volume, light and shadows, perspective and depth. All supplies included. Fee is $150 for six classes.

At the Firehouse Gallery in Walnut Beach on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., from March 12 to April 16, the center will offer Journaling Through Art for students ages 8 and up. The can learn about emotive quality of colors and various art and craft materials such as pencil, pastel and watercolor and craft supplies.

Students will create and write. Instructor Shannon Murray is a Montessori teacher and holds a master's degree in art and family therapy. All supplies are included. Fee is $150 for six classes.

On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Firehouse Gallery, for six weeks from March 15 to April 19, Drawing Explorations will be offered. Lessons will offer technique with materials, and insight into composition, point of view and self-expression. All levels are welcome. Instructor and Columbia University graduate Marcia Borland is the art department chair of the Young Women's Leadership Schools in New York City.

Fee is $150 for six classes.
