Scouts collect about 350 turkeys during annual campout

Milford Scouts collected about 350 turkeys this past weekend with their annual Thanks For Giving food drive.

The annual food drive also netted more than $3,300 in cash donations and nine truckloads of other food items. Organizers said more than 300 volunteers helped collect, sort and transport the donations..

A total of 305 Milford families received Thanksgiving baskets from the Scouts following the weekend collection. The cash will be used to buy gift cards for families during the December holiday season.

Milford Scouts collected and sorted turkeys and other donations over a 48-hour period at area grocery stores and at Wasson Field, where they camped for the weekend.

Troop 1 hosted the event in conjunction with Milford Family Services.

Participants included Boy Scout Troops 1 and 196; Cub Scouts Packs 7, 13, 17, 19 and 721; Girl Scout Cadette Troop 30309 and 38319; Girl Scout Troup 38375; Brownie Troop 38323 and 38370, and Daisy Troop 30320.

This year’s food drive supported the Milford Food Bank, Cornerstone Food Bank, John Rigley Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, First United Church of Christ Food bank, Food 2 Kids, Saint Gabriel’s Food Bank and the Beth El Shelter.
