Veterans Day parade is still on for today

Richard Platt will be keynote speaker

Richard Platt will be the keynote speaker of this year’s Veterans Day parade. Platt, a former city historian and veteran, is pictured here at a city event in which he spoke about the city’s history, dressed in period garb.

Milford’s Veterans Day parade will take place Sunday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m., in downtown Milford, starting at the Parsons Government Center and making its way to the gazebo on the green.

Parade watchers may want to bring an umbrella due to the light rain.

The parade grand marshal and keynote speaker will be Richard Platt. A Milford native, Platt is a descendant of several of the Milford founding families featured on the Memorial Bridge in Milford Center. After graduating from Yale University, Platt served four years of active duty in the United States Navy, completing more than 20 years as a member of the Navy Reserve.

Platt also served 10 years on the Milford Board of Education and 14 years as Milford city historian.

The city’s Veterans Day wreath laying ceremony will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, in front of City Hall at 10:45 a.m.
