Jonathan Law graduation is tonight: Class speakers named

Anisha Manglani, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sunil Manglani, will serve as Valedictorian for the Class of 2013 at Jonathan Law High School.

Graduation ceremonies start at 5:15 tonight (Thursday) at Law.

Anisha ranks first in her class of 249 students with a grade point average of 4.03.  She has pursued a rigorous set of courses, completing many at the Honors level, as well as six Advanced Placement (AP) courses. She was named an AP Scholar, as well as a CAPT Scholar.  Anisha is a recipient of the Yale Book Award, and she has received many academic medals for excellence throughout the past four years.  This year, she served as president of the National Honor Society.

An active member of the school community, Anisha has enjoyed serving both as a member as well as a leader in several organizations at Law.  For the past two years, she has served as the secretary for the Class of 2013. Anisha has also been an active member of the Natural Helpers Club, as well as the Keyette Club, serving as vice president in her junior year and as president this year.

Anisha has become a respected journalist at Jonathan Law, having written for the school newspaper for the past two years.  This year, she earned the position of news editor and over the years has developed a ‘following’ among her student community who enjoy her short stories and articles.

Anisha also spends a significant amount of time volunteering in the community, for which she will graduate with the Distinction for Community Service.  Her community service hours include volunteering at the Milford Public Library and serving as a camp counselor at Hindu Youth Summer Camp.

She will be attending Quinnipiac University in the fall where she will enter the Honors program and major in Marketing.

Katherine Alling, daughter of Carolyn and Charles Alling, will serve her class as this year’s Salutatorian. Katherine ranks second in the class of 249 students, with a grade point average of 4.0.  Throughout her career at Law, Katherine has taken the most rigorous of courses, including eight Advanced Placement courses and 12 honors level courses.  Among her many academic accolades, Katherine was named an AP Scholar with Honor as well as a CAPT Scholar.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Dartmouth Book Award.  Katherine also served as a team member of the 2013 Science Olympiad, held at the University of Connecticut.

Beyond academics, Katherine is an accomplished dancer, having spent more than 10 years dedicated to the study of ballet, pointe, tap and jazz.  This year, she was able to share her accomplishment in dance as she served in the capacity of choreographer for the annual Mr. JLHS competition at the high school.

In addition to school activities, Katherine is an active volunteer in the community.  During her years at Law, she was an active member of the Keyette Club, serving as treasurer in her junior year.  Katherine also spent a significant number of hours serving as an academic tutor and mentor to students at Meadowside Elementary School.  Over the summer months, she volunteered at the Stratford Library, as well as working as a camp counselor with the Cub Scouts of Milford at Eisenhower Park in 2012.

Showing her leadership skills, Katherine also is a founding member of and secretary for the Venturers Crew 303 of Milford. She is one of the few female members of this co-ed branch of the Boy Scouts of America and spearheaded many projects this year that were related to Hurricane Sandy.

Katherine will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall, where she has been awarded UCONN’s prestigious Presidential Scholarship, in addition to an undergraduate fellowship where she will continue her scholarly exploration and enrichment.  Katherine will pursue a degree in engineering.
