The Milford Arts Council Performance Coffeehouse will continue the 2014-2015 season with folk duo The Levins on Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m.
Ira and Julia Levin combine harmony-driven acoustic folk rock with wistful overtones of the 1930s – somewhat like The Mamas and The Papas having coffee with Cole Porter. They’ve been performing in the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, northern New Jersey and New York City.
In 2011, The Levins won the Connecticut Folk Festival songwriting competition. Their CD, My Friend Hafiz, inspired by the poetry of Sufi mystic poet Hafiz, was in the top 20 on folk radio. WFUV’s John Platt included the album in his Best of 2013 list. Albums recorded with their west coast world folk ensemble have garnered invitations to perform in both Amsterdam and England and they have received songwriting awards for their folk, pop, Jewish and children’s music.
Tickets for The Levins Performance Coffeehouse are $15 for MFAC members and $20 for non-members.
The show takes place on Friday, April 17. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
Snacks, beer and wine will be available for a nominal charge. The coffee is free. For tickets, call 203-878-6647.
