School board votes for plan that raises spending 2.29%

School Board Chairman Tracy Casey’s gavel sits quietly during a budget workshop meeting this week while the board members stepped out of the room to discuss their thoughts about the budget proposal.

The Milford Board of Education voted Tuesday night to approve the school superintendent’s budget request, with a slight reduction.

School Supt. Dr. Elizabeth Feser had requested an $88.87 million spending plan for 2013-14. The board approved that, minus $27,000, taken from several areas.

The superintendent’s request had represented a 2.29% increase over the current year’s spending plan.

With the board’s reduction, the request is still a 2.29% increase.

Next, the proposal will go to the Board of Finance and then the Board of Aldermen for approval.
