Maroney thanks governor for downtown funds

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor:

As chairman of the Founders’ Walk Committee, I would like to thank Governor Dan Malloy, Mayor Ben Blake, and our state legislative delegation for their hard work and effort in obtaining a $150,000 grant for the downtown Milford area. This grant will be used to assist the city in planning for more parking around downtown Milford and the train station.

While we have a beautiful 17 miles of shoreline, downtown is the heart of our community. The increased parking in a thoughtful way, as well as projects like Founders’ Walk, the beautification of the railroad trestle, and the MilfordViews project will ensure that our downtown is enjoyed by our community and visitors for years to come.

Studies show that investments in a community’s downtown yield more property taxes, sales tax, and jobs per acre than investments in big box real estate. I am thankful to the state of Connecticut for sharing this vision and making increased investments in downtown Milford – I look forward to watching the progress.

James Maroney
