The Milford Umpires Association, a member of USA Softball, has awarded 10 college scholarships, made possible through the collection of team fees from local USA Softball tournaments.
Eight scholarship recipients were selected in conjunction with the respective guidance departments of Joseph A. Foran and Jonathan Law high schools, with two additional recipients selected independently by the Milford Umpires Association. The recipients were honored for scholastic achievement, community involvement and participation in high school athletics. All scholarship recipients plan to attend four-year colleges.
From Foran High, Emma Lucas participated in soccer and basketball and will attend the University of Connecticut. Max Tavitian, bound for Western New England University, played football and lacrosse. Makenna Prete participated in volleyball and softball and will attend Fairfield University. Justin DeEll played football and baseball and will attend Florida Gulf Coast University. Joseph Mendillo, who participated in basketball, baseball and football, will attend Southern Connecticut State University.

Cali Jolley, bound for the University of South Carolina, participated in swimming, basketball and softball. Tyler McKenna-Hansen, who participated in cross country, basketball and outdoor track, will attend the University of Delaware. Russ Pasacreta, president of the Milford Umpires Association, said, “It’s very gratifying to award these scholarships to young people who have distinguished themselves in many ways.”
In addition to funding these annual scholarships, the Milford Umpires Association donates to the local Toys for Tots campaign, Milford Food Bank and other charitable organizations. The Association provides umpiring services to the City of Milford Recreation Department, along with state and national softball tournaments for both youth and adult players.
