Jean M. (Wargo) Costa
Jean M. (Wargo) Costa, 94, of Trumbull, wife of Paul J. Costa Sr. for 61 years, died Feb. 18, in Griffin Hospital, after a brief illness. Her daughter, Diane Ancel and her husband, Andrew lives in Milford.
Born in Bridgeport Dec. 19, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Pulaski) Wargo.
Mrs. Costa graduated from St. John Nepomucene School and Warren Harding High School, both in Bridgeport. She later attended hairdressing school, eventually earning her manager’s license.
She married Paul shortly after he opened Paul’s Hairstyling Salon in Bridgeport.
Jean was a dedicated mother and business partner, working with her husband for more than 30 years as a hairdresser, bookkeeper, and receptionist, her family said. Once retired, she spent the next 32 years with her husband, taking day trips, some travel, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed Rummy-O and crossword puzzles.
Besides her husband, survivors include a son, Richard P. Costa and his wife, Jane of Boxford, Mass.; two daughters, Phyllis Collier of Trumbull and Diane Ancel and her husband, Andrew of Milford; four granddaughters, Allison and Lindsay Ancel and Rachel and Rebecca Costa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terry Wargo of Monroe, Ann Wargo of Bridgeport, Dora Costa of Trumbull, Jim and Terry Hanlon of Trumbull and Gus and Ann Palmieri of Stratford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Paul J. Costa Jr.; two sisters, Mae Casselman and Helen Hlavacek; and three brothers, John, George, and Albert Wargo.
Services are Wednesday, Feb. 22, 8:30 a.m., Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Visiting hours, Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.
