William “Bill” O. Giel

William “Bill” O. Giel, 60, of Milford, husband of the late Patricia Kelly Giel, died Jan. 24, at CT Hospice, Branford, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Son of the late William J. and Regina Manahan Giel, he was born Sept. 14, 1951 in Rye, N.Y.

Mr. Giel was a graduate of Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y. and Vermont Technical College. He was chief surveyor at Rocco V. D’Andrea, Inc. Riverside, CT where he worked for 35 years.

Mr. Giel was a member of the CT Association of Land Surveyors; on the board of examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors; owned  Moondog Software; and was a consultant for the DEP.

An avid gun enthusiast, he loved target shooting, and was a member of the NRA.

Survivors include a son, William R. Giel of West Haven; and sister-in-law, Eileen Kelly of Sligo, Ireland.

Services are Saturday, Jan. 28, 9 a.m., Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 North Broad St., Milford, and at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
