Firefighters from Stratford and Milford are battling a fire burning brush and a bulkhead on the MTA bridge over the Housatonic River reported around 10:15 p.m. Monday, Feb 13.
The right and center lanes of I-95 south have been closed, but the state Department of Transportation reported a vehicle fire. Reports from the scene indicate Milford firefighters were shooting water off the Moses Wheeler Bridge to douse the fire.
The MTA was called to cut power to the bridge, but trains were running at 10:45 p.m.
A report from the scene indicated wood alongside the bulkhead is on fire. Firefighters were still working to put out the fire shortly before 11 p.m.
According to the Stratford Fire Department Local 998 Facebook page, Engine 1, TAC 5 and Squad 4, the brush, from Stratford are joined by Engines 1, 3 and 4 from Milford.
The Sikorsky Aircraft Fire Department has sent its boat to the scene. The boat the Stratford Fire Department received when the Stratford Police Department received a new vessel is not equipped with pumps.
