A Milford police officer helped nab a Plainville man who was allegedly using the Internet to lure minors into sexual acts.
Last June, a Milford detective assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Computer Crimes Against Children Taskforce, posing as minor under 16 years old online, was contacted by Jeremia E. Ramsdell through Internet chat using the screen name persona of “REDWORLF2481.” Police said Ramsdell requested a meeting with the minor for sexual activity.
Ramsdell sent several sexually explicit pictures of himself to the undercover detective, according to Police Spokesman Jeffrey Nielsen.
On Jan. 27, a New Haven Superior Court Judge signed two search warrants and an arrest warrant for Ramsdell, and on Jan. 31 the search warrants were executed at Ramsdell’s residence at 228 West Main Street, Plainville.
Ramsdell was charged with criminal attempt to entice a minor into sexual activity via computer and six counts of criminal attempt to commit risk of injury to a minor. He was held in police custody in lieu of a $75,000 bond and was arraigned at New Haven Superior Court.
The Computer Crimes Taskforce for Crimes Against Children is located at the FBI, 600 State Street, New Haven. The taskforce is made up of several special agents and detectives from Milford, New Haven, Hamden and Hartford police departments.
Several officers and a detective from the Plainville Police Department also assisted in Ramsdell’s arrest.
