Snow is falling, creating a blanket of white around the city and making roadways slick.
The snow is expected to become steadier and heavier by mid morning and continue moderate to occasionally heavy at times from late morning into early this afternoon.
The snow is expected to taper off from West to East between 3:00 – 6:00 PM. Total snowfall accumulations are expected to range from 4 - 7 inches across most of the state with a few slightly higher amounts possible in far Eastern Connecticut.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Fairfield County and Winter Weather Advisories for New Haven, Middlesex and New London Counties. Additional Watches, Warnings or Advisories are likely to be issued with the next NWS forecast update later this afternoon.
Other than slick travel resulting from the snowfall on state roads, no other significant hazards are expected from this storm event. Winds are expected to be only 10 - 15 MPH and no freezing rain is expected. The overall impact of the Saturday storm on travel is expected to be minor to moderate (less than would be expected because of the lighter weekend traffic).
