Aldermen adopt 2012-13 budget

The Board of Aldermen adopted a $185,807,382 budget for 2012-13, which marks a spending increase of 1.24% over the current year.

In Back to the Future, Marty McFly takes a DeLorean back in time to make sure that his parents meet and fall in love, insuring his existence.

While he may not have been driving a stainless steel sports car, Planning and Zoning Board (P&Z) Mark Bender effectively rolled back the clock in a revote that approved a plan for the relocation of Pop's Restaurant to a vacant 1.45-acre parcel at 134 Old Gate Lane.

   

Big boat show comes to Milford this weekend

A big spring boat show will be held this weekend at Lisman Landing, May 18 to 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

North Sails, a company dealing with sail technology and manufacturing and based in Milford, will present at SailQuest Boat Show. West Marine, a popular national boating retailer among boating enthusiasts, will also be on hand.

   

Late blooming artist teaches others to paint

Mike Voytek’s time has come. He has always had an avid interest in art, but somehow the time to pursue his dream eluded him.

In 1957 he had hoped to attend college and pursue a commercial art degree; instead he joined the workforce and learned about all art mediums on his own. He dabbled in the normal oils, acrylic and watercolors, but also linoleum block printing, theorem painting, silk-screening, and reverse painting on glass. Basically he was self-taught, but he had no time to pursue his art as an artist.

   

Kansas headlines this year's Oyster Fest

Kansas, a legendary rock band from the 70s to the present, will be headlining the entertainment at the 38th Annual Milford Oyster Festival on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Fowler Field.

Led by original lead singer Steve Walsh, Kansas recorded several hits, including the million-selling gold single “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry on Wayward Son.” The band has recorded over 23 albums, including eight gold and four platinum records, and has spent more than 200 weeks on the Billboard Charts.

   

Sand returns to Gulf Beach

Gulf Beach will have noticeably more sand this summer for beachgoers. The city recently spread about 10,000 yards of sand on the beach as part of a restoration project.

“I think they’re going to see it,” said Public Works Director Bruce Kolwicz.
