Ducks will soar down harbor Sunday for annual race

Milford Harbor will be filled with rubber ducks Sunday for the annual Milford Harbor Duck Race.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting at the Fowler Pavilion, behind Milford Library.
Longtime art educator saluted as retirement nears

The Annual Milford Public Schools Art Show has become a favorite event in Milford with hundreds of students and their parents touring the halls of the Parsons Complex to view the student pieces on display.
While attendees enjoyed the elementary art show opening in March, it was the formal announcement of long-time art educator Frank Vespi's retirement that took center stage during the show's opening ceremony. Vespi's retirement will be effective at the end of this school year.

“It's hard to believe that such poverty and such a high suicide rate could exist in the United States,” said Nena Coulombe, a tenth grader and Woodmont United Church of Christ Youth Group member. She was talking about the people of the Lakota Tribe on the Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. “I really want to help them,” Nena continued.
Eight members of the Youth Group along with Debi Mastoni-Kenyon, Director of Education and Office Management; Stephanie Buehler, Youth Group Advisor; and three other adults; will be doing volunteer work on the Sioux Reservation between August 18 and 25.

It is impossible to understand the amount of devastation domestic violence causes until one witnesses it firsthand. It’s tough to understand how serious domestic violence can become unless one has dealt with it on a personal level. Unfortunately, some victims of domestic violence don’t realize the severity of their situations until it is too late. This was the case for my mother, Catherine Fox, who fell victim to the deadly world of domestic violence.
Deer at park venture closer to people

Deer at Silver Sands State Park appear to be coming more acclimated to humans, and one wildlife biologist said that is just a sign of wildlife becoming familiar with its environment.
The deer, numerous at the park, have been venturing closer to humans, coming within feet of people who toss food over a chain link fence to them.
