Lewis wins title, Hiller, Eccleston excel

Terrence Lewis from Jonathan Law won the state title in the long jump at 20-5.25 at the the Class M Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Feb. 14. Valerie Hiller led the girls team, when the junior took third in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:35.37.
Hiller was eighth in the 3200 with a time of 12:37.06.
The Law boys placed 20th in a 26-team field, while the girls were 18th out of 32 teams competing.
Hillhouse High of New Haven (46) won the team title, followed by East Lyme (38) and New Fairfield (31).
Lewis, Tim Maher, Najee Smith and Connor Falaguerra took ninth for the Lawmen in the 4x200 relay in 1:39.27.
Smith was seventh in the long jump (19-8).
Zach Coelho was 10th in the shot put at 41-00.50, Ray Cruz was 21st (38-07.75) and Nick Casagrande 33rd (34-01.50).
Falaguerra was 17th in the 300 meter dash with a time of 38.98.
Law girl’s 4x200 relay team of Carissa Benoit, Brianna Grazynski, Cori Kalafus and Cassie Packer placed 17th in 1:59.26.
Lewis was 10th in the long jump at 10-05.75 in the State Open in New Haven on Saturday.
Foran results
Caitlin Eccleston placed third in the long jump at 16-4 to help the Foran High girls finish 20th.
Lauren Polansky was eighth for Foran in the shot put at 31-11.50.
For the boys, Mark Dillman was 14th in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:53.36.
Zach Sabo was 16th in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:34.66.
