Delorio, Bannon lead Lawmen

The Jonathan Law wrestling team split four matches at the Ledyard Duals on Saturday. Coach Matt Schoonmaker’s Lawmen (10-7) defeated St. Bernard’s of Uncasville 78-6 and Avon High 39-38, and lost to No. 4 Ledyard 60-12 and South Kingston (R.I.) 35-28.
Trailing Avon 38-27, Law needed two wins to win the match and received just that from senior Evan Delorio and junior Ryan Bannon.
Delorio scored a pin in 23 seconds of his 126-pound bout, and Bannon closed out the win with a third-period fall in 4:52 in the 132-pound class.
Freshman Max German (1:23 pin at 138) and senior Cody Edson (15-9 decision at 145) gave Law a 9-0 lead before Avon won five straight matches, four by fall and one via forfeit, to take a 30-9 lead.
Senior Jake Mastrianna ended the slide with a pin in 2:51 at 220 pounds, and junior James Marron fired his team up with a 10-second pin in the heavyweight division.
With the score a more manageable 30-21, junior 106-pounder Samantha Rebentisch pinned in 5:51.
Avon made it 35-27 with a win by technical fall and added a decision to put the matches outcome on Delorio and Bannon.
Sophomore Pierce Holvak (1:55 pin at 152) and junior Anthony Volturno (3:23 pin) posted wins on the mat in the victory over St. Bernard’s.
Senior Brian Manes (54-second pin at 120) and Bannon (2:33 pin) had the wins versus Ledyard.
Marron, with a pin in 1:06, and Rebentisch, with a pin in 1:49, drew the Lawmen within 30-28 of South Kingston before the Ocean Staters won out by technical fall.
Brian Manes (3:10 pin), Delorio (6-1 decision), Bannon (8-7 decision) and Edson (12-4 major decision) also posted victories.
Law will host Masuk and Bethel at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
