Fun Fest, walk to help children

The West Haven Community House is sponsoring a Fall Family Fun Fest and 2-Mile Walk starting at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, all at West Haven High School.

The cost to walk is $12 for those who pre-register, and $15 on the day of the event.

Children may purchase a pumpkin for $10 to decorate, and there is a limited supply of pumpkins, so advance registration and payment is encouraged.

For more information, contact Community House Development Director Chris Carroll at (203) 934-5221, ext. 133, or (203) 868-6837, or by email at: ccarroll@whcommunityhouse.net.

Carroll, the development and communications director at the Community House, said the benefit walk, dubbed The Healthy Children & Families 2-Mile Walk, is an unofficial outgrowth of the Children’s Memorial race/walk held in Milford for eight years that honored the memory of children who passed away too young in life.

“We raised significant funds for a Milford non-profit doing the race/walk,” Carroll said, “We wanted to do something similar to try to raise funds for the Community House.”

In addition to the walk along the scenic Savin Road boardwalk along the beach, the event features a children’s pumpkin decorating contest, face painting and three special book readings at 10, 10:30 and 11 a.m. by a special guest, The Cat in the Hat.

The fundraising events will support the Community House’s Head Start pre-school, its before- and after-school child care programs in the West Haven public schools, and the not-for-profit private agency’s residential and day programs for adults with developmental disabilities.
