A knife-wielding bandit robbed the Milford Wine & Spirits shop at 149 Welches Point Road on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 2:20 p.m. Police say they believe the man, dressed in a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, is the same man responsible for two earlier robberies.
Police had been investigating similar robberies: One that occurred at the Dunkin Donuts at 1353 New Haven Avenue on Sept. 28 and the other at the Shell Gas Station on 524 New Haven Avenue on Oct. 6. Both those robberies occurred after 10 p.m.
Heidi Staniszewski, owner of Milford Wine & Spirits, said her sister had been working at the time of the incident. “We are all very shaken up and concerned that this person is caught.”
Witnesses to the latest robbery have expressed concerns that the latest incident occurred during day-light hours, “while children were walking home from school.”
Police spokesman, Jeffrey Nielsen said that witnesses to two of the robberies observed the man leaving the area in a dark older model four-door vehicle. Witnesses believe there may have been a handicap placard displayed in the front window, said Nielsen.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years of age and approximately 6 feet tall. He has a light colored hair and mustache. So far, no injuries have been reported during any of the robberies, but police and business owners remain concerned, especially after the latest robbery.
“We have been actively warning all fellow business owners in town,” said Staniszewski. “This guy needs to get caught.”
Police are encouraging citizens to report any unusual activities they may observe at businesses to their local police department. Police are actively investigating all three incidents.
