Frank Katona, 93, of Stratford, died in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Katona was predeceased by his wives, Mary Guti Katona and Shirley DuBois Katona.
He was born in Bridgeport to the late George and Anna Budnar Katona.
Mr. Katona was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Avco-Lycoming. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, bowling and coin collecting.
Until his health declined earlier this year, he drove his car every day and loved to go for rides by the water.
Family meant everything to him and one of his favorite pastimes was spending time with family watching sports, especially UCONN basketball.
His children feel blessed that he enjoyed many years of good health and a sharp mind.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Frank and Donna Katona of Vero Beach, Fla., Fred and Cirena Katona of Milford and Marianne and Arthur Chaves of Monroe; six grandchildren, Frank G. Katona II, Kenneth Katona, Jennifer Re, Kurt Katona, Michael Chaves and Dennis Chaves; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Leete and Margaret Ogalin.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 9:30 am on the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford with services at 10:00 am officiated by Rev. Meg Williams. Interment will follow with military honors at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 – 8 pm.
