Knitters and quilters meet every Friday at 1 p.m. The group gathers to socialize and work on their projects.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m., Evening Adult Book Group, “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m., Meet the Author, featuring Milford author Joe Carvalko.

Monday, Oct. 21, Jazz Cabaret, with Maydie Myles and Chris Coogan.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m., Cemeteries, Connecticut’s Old Burying Grounds with Gravestone Lady Ruth Brown.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 10 a.m., Classic Book Discussion, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson.

 

CHILDREN’S

The children’s department at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave., is holding events the next few weeks. For information call: 203-783-3304.

Story time: Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 a.m. come to the library and enjoy stories, a craft and new friends. For ages 3 and up with a caregiver.

Mondays storytimes are provided in part by Great Beginnings Preschool.

Toddler Time: Wednesdays at 10 and 11 a.m. Fingerplays, songs and stories. For ages 2 and under with a caregiver.

Kids Book Club: Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. Activities, refreshments and books. This month, “Spooky Stories.” Bring your favorite to share or just come to listen. Grade 3 and up. Register in the Children’s Department.

Halloween Bones: A Creative Dramatics drama workshop. Saturday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. for ages 4-6 and 3 p.m. for ages 7 and up. It’s Halloween night. The city is quiet. The city is still. But as the lights go down, the music comes up — and the guests start to arrive at the hip-hop Halloween ball. And oh, what a party it is. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Family place: E registration is open for the Fall 2013 session. This 4-week playgroup runs Thursdays, Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. For children ages 1-3 and a caregiver.

The workshop features toys, crafts, books and play. Community resource people will be on hand to discuss parenting questions and concerns. Siblings ages 5 and under may attend. Space is limited and registration is required.

Dixon Street

Note the change of Thursdays hours at the Woodmont Library, 16 Dixon St. Milford. Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon and 6:30 to 9 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Call 203-874-5675.

Book group — The book for October is, It’s Probably Nothing, by Dr. Beach Conger. The group meets the first Thursday monthly. All are welcome. For more information, call 203-874-5675.

Chess — Chess Club for all ages — Thursdays, 3:30-5 p.m. Learn and/or play. No fee.

Games — Interested in chess, cards, games? Call George, 203-878-3602.

Mah Jongg — Free Mah Jongg classes for beginners, 10 a.m. Tuesdays. Pre-registration required in person at the library, 16 Dixon St. Woodmont, or call 203-874-5675 during library hours. Class size is limited, registration first come, first served.
