Hospital creates Garden of Life

The Milford Hospital Auxiliary officially broke ground for the construction of its Garden of Life outside the hospital last week.

Approximately 75 hospital officials, Auxiliary representatives, community members and business leaders attended the ceremony.

The Garden Of Life will be constructed at the main entrance to the hospital and will serve as a focal point to all those who enter. It will feature a brick Walkway of Honor, Eternity Circle of bench tops and Living Legacy benches, each of which have been purchased to pay tribute to, honor or memorialize someone special.

“In a short period of time, just six or eight months, the Auxiliary’s past presidents, Rita Canas and Patricia Cucuzza, put together a team of talented individuals, including hospital board members and staffers as well as several local community and business leaders to create and execute the design and bring us here today,” said Joseph Pelaccia, President and CEO of Milford Hospital.

“The Garden of Life is a fitting and symbolic addition to our facility,” he added. “With this special project comes a feeling of hope, love and loyalty. I am most appreciative of the ongoing and supportive efforts of our Auxiliary in helping us meet the physical and emotional needs of our patients, visitors and the community. I look forward to meeting here again next spring for a dedication ceremony.”

To date, all of the benches and benchtops have been sold, however, 4” x 8” bricks, with up to three lines of engraving are available for a cost of $150.

The bricks may also be given as a gift for a special occasion. Personalized inscriptions can have up to 18 characters per line (including spaces and punctuation) and may include a name, a quote or a brief message.

Sample messages include but are not limited to: “A Star is Born,” followed by a child’s name and birth date; “In Loving Memory” or “In our Hearts,” followed by a loved one’s name; “Thank You Dr. Jones,” followed by a family name; “Donated by,” followed by a name or company.

Less than 800 bricks remain available for purchase.
