More than 150 staff, friends and supporters of Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut gathered at Costa-Azzurra Restaurant in Milford in June for the agency’s 12th Annual Clambake.
This year’s event raised $43,000, which will benefit VNS’ medically underserved and hospice programs.
Rainy skies did not dampen the enthusiasm of attendees who dined on lobster, had their fortunes told, sat for a caricaturist, and placed bids on top- drawer auction items, including a one-week vacation in Aruba.
The highlight of the evening was the raffle, presided over by clambake co-chairs Karen Mercer of Trumbull and Patty Merola of Milford, for the 15 themed baskets created by various VNS staff departments.
VNS Board Chairman Bob Rodia welcomed the participants and thanked them for sharing in VNS’ commitment to patients and families in need. Guests were also inspired by the message delivered by the widow of a VNS hospice patient, who spoke movingly of the support and comfort she experienced from the VNS hospice team caring for her husband.
VNS President William F. Sullivan Jr. acknowledged each of the nearly 20 sponsoring firms, including Presenting Sponsor UBS and Partners, and the Lead Sponsor, Pierson and Smith.
