The Eastern Connecticut State University women’s softball team closed out the regular season on a 35-game winning streak, and wrapped up the first undefeated Little East Conference regular season in conference history with 9-0, 9-0 wins over the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at Towers Field on the USM campus.
Christine Akcer, a junior out of Jonathan Law, has made four starts and appeared in nine games, pitching to a 2.23 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 22 innings.
Already assured the No. 1 seed in the LEC tournament which it will host this Thursday through Saturday, No. 2 nationally-ranked Eastern (36-1, 14-0 Little East) becomes the first team in the 17-year history of LEC softball competition to win all of its regular-season games.
Coached by Diana Pepin, Warriors have won 40 and lost two over the last three seasons in LEC regular-season play.
It was the third straight LEC regular season title for the two-time defending LEC tournament champions.
