DiMatteo Foundation delivers

The 7th annual DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament was once again a big success, as golfing and giving went hand in hand when 126 area golfers played the links at Oronoque Country Club in Stratford.

The Foundation raised more than $25,000 for the following three charities: Project Purple in Beacon Falls (funding research for pancreatic cancer), St. Vincent’s Special Needs Center in Trumbull, and the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut and Massachusetts.

This foundation was established by the DiMatteo Group in Shelton. This spirit of philanthropy resulted in the creation of the DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation seven years ago and their annual golf tournament. The foundation was established as a tribute to their late father, who was battling cancer at the time.

“Our Family Foundation is committed to funding research, education and finding a cure for diseases that have touched the lives of our friends, families, clients and staff,” said John DiMatteo, President of the DiMatteo Group.

“We are proud to have raised more than $165,000 for over 14 well-known local and national charities.”

Founded over 52 years ago, this family-owned and operated business specializes in insurance, employee benefits, income tax and financial services.

Many area companies and business associates of DiMatteo Group contributed to the tournament as sponsors.

Top gold sponsors included: The Hartford, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Haven, and the DiMatteo Group.

At the silver sponsor level, the following generous sponsors were: Bella Pietra of Darien, BKM/ Red Thread Spaces, LLC of Milford, and Preferred Tool and Die, Inc. and Preferred Precision, both of Shelton.

Bronze sponsors who contributed were: the Disorbo Family of Derby, Original Antonio’s of Ansonia/and Applegate Brokerage of Beacon Falls (split sponsorship); Peerless Insurance of Rocky Hill, 3PL Worldwide Inc, of Milford, Crystal Restoration of Norwalk, Auto Glass of New England LLC of Stratford, Selective Insurance, Lovely Development, LLC of Plantsville, and United Cleaning of Middlefield, Fandotech of Manchester and Glass America/First Team, both of Norwalk (split sponsorship).

In addition for the past seven years, Steve Geremia from Safelite AutoGlass of Bridgeport annually organizes a Hit the Windshield putting contest on the day of the tournament and donates the prize and the proceeds.

John DiMatteo said: “We are thankful to all our friends, family members and customers who have so generously supported our golf tournament, which funds our foundation. We are fortunate to give back to three great non-profits that do so much for the community.”

Some of the many charities the foundation has supported in the past include: St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound, the Kennedy Center, the American Heart Association and Juvenile Diabetes Association.

DiMatteo Group continues to maintain its foundation of integrity, personalized service and treating others as an extension of the family.

“We have successfully transitioned the business from our parent and founders to the second generation,” John DiMatteo said.

Three of the siblings serve as officers of the company. John specializes in financial planning and works with his wife, Kim DiMatteo of Bethany, a partner in the business and sales manager.

Loretta Lesko of Shelton, the second youngest sibling, serves as vice president, and is in charge of operations, while her husband Robert Lesko is a partner and life sales manager.

In addition, Rosemarie Esposito of Shelton, the eldest sibling, is the agency’s treasurer, an enrolled agent and manages the income tax business and bookkeeping services.
