Congratulations to ShopRite of Milford owner Harry Garafalo, his staff and customers for helping to raise $12,000 to benefit Milford’s United Way and the agencies it supports.
Hot dog sales and donations at the register added up to $12,000 during ShopRite of Milford’s United Way Month. Every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday during July, United Way volunteers and representatives from the organization’s partner agencies, as well as ShopRite staff, sold hot dogs and soda outside the Milford store.
Besides selling hot dogs and raffle tickets, the volunteers were on hand to answer questions and spread awareness of how the funds are used in the community.
All of the money raised through the hot dog sales and special donations were given to the United Way.
In turn, the United Way distributes funds to 20 local agencies, including the Boys & girls Club, Beth El Shelter, American Red Cross, Milford Kids Count, the YMCA and the Milford Senior Center.
The United Way will hold its campaign kickoff at Subway Worldwide Headquarters, 325 Bic Drive, on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is when the United Way and its volunteers rally to start collecting the funds needed to support the following year’s planned financial distributions.
Hot and cold appetizers and beverages will be provided, as well as the chance to meet campaign spokesperson Juliana Mazza, Miss Connecticut. Register by Sept. 9 and attendance is free. There is a $20 charge after Sept. 9 at the door.
Milford is lucky to have its own United Way, which helps Milford organizations with money raised right here in Milford. By helping to fund these agencies, like the Senior Center, Bridges, and the Boys & Girls Club, the United Way is helping a very large number of Milford residents.
