Lauralton Hall withstands East Hartford upset bid

Olivia Levey scored 22 points, while Emma McCarthy added 21, as the Lauralton Hall basketball team held off East Hartford, 61-54, on Friday night in the second round of the Class LL state tournament.

Levey poured in 16 of her points in the second half, helping the second-seeded Crusaders rally back from a 29-24 halftime deficit. The senior forward notched eight points in a decisive 10-0 Lauralton Hall run early in the third quarter that put the Crusaders ahead for good.

Lauralton Hall (22-1), the SWC champion, will host No. 7 seed Danbury High (22-3), the FCIAC champion, on March 7 in the Class LL quarterfinals. The Hatters advanced to the quarters with a 48-40 victory over league foes Stamford on Friday night.

No. 18 seed East Hartford, which knocked down 6-of-12 3-pointers in the first half to build up its halftime edge, wrapped up its season at 14-8.  Sophomore guard Malena Quiles had 16 points for the Hornets, while Michela Hunt chipped in with 15.
