Police say middle school student assaulted teacher and police officer

A 13-year-old West Shore Middle School student assaulted a teacher and a police officer on Friday, police said.

According to a police report, at 1:19 p.m. Friday, the Milford Police Department received a complaint from a representative of West Shore Middle School regarding a teacher that was assaulted by a student who had since left the school. The student reportedly punched the teacher in the face following a confrontation over a cell phone.

A responding officer located the 13-year-old student in a parking lot on Lenox Avenue.

“The juvenile became verbally abusive and took up a fighting stance with the officer, telling him he was going to take the officer’s gun and shoot the officer with it,” police said in a prepared release.

The juvenile then charged the officer, swinging his fists, striking the officer in the left temple area.

While struggling with the police officer, the juvenile attempted to remove the firearm from the officer’s duty holster but was unsuccessful, police said.

The police officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.

The juvenile was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with police, assault, threatening and breach of peace. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for an emergency evaluation and is scheduled to appear in juvenile court, police said.
