A husband and wife have both died from their injuries after being hit by a car after last week’s blizzard. Services for the couple are scheduled this week.

Brenda Tanski, 51, and Kevin Tanski, 53, were walking on Bridgeport Avenue last Monday with their daughter and another family member, whom police have not identified, when they were hit by a vehicle driven by James Dorso, 31, of Milford.

Kevin died a day after the accident, and Brenda died in Bridgeport Hospital on Saturday.

Jenny Tanski, 21, was released from the hospital, and the fourth member of the family was not injured, police said.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. last Monday on Bridgeport Avenue near Cowles Street. Police said the four family members were walking east along the shoulder of the roadway when they were hit by a vehicle driven by Dorso.

Police have suggested that snow piled up after the weekend blizzard contributed to the accident because walking areas and visibility were limited.

The couple lived on Ellis Street, according to a phone directory. Ellis Street is not far from where the accident occurred.

Kevin and Brenda worked for the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital, according to a VA Hospital website.

Comments posted about the couple paint a picture of a loving couple dedicated to their family.

“Words alone cannot begin to express the sadness at the loss of Brenda and Kevin,” one post reads. “They were so dedicated to their family, friends, co-workers and most especially, to each other.”

Another comment reads, “Brenda Rhoades Tanski’s never ending energy to care for veterans and their families will be greatly missed.”

“My heart goes out for their children,” another post reads. “Losing both parents is a big tragedy … may God give them peace.”

The Tanski’s children attended Jonathan Law High School. Music teacher Paul Marino said he knew the students and their parents through band, and said the parents were both very nice people.

Visitation for the couple is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main St., Stratford.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 am on Friday, Feb. 22, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford.

Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.

The Milford Police Traffic Division is investigating the accident and is asking anyone with information to call 203-783-4749 or email dsharoh@ci.milford.ct.us. Police have not said whether the driver faces charges. A police spokesman said police comments will be limited because the accident is still under investigation.
