Two pedestrians in critical condition after being hit on Bridgeport Avenue

Two people are in critical condition after being hit by a car this morning on Bridgeport Avenue near Cowles Street.

Two other pedestrians were hit also. One of them received minor injuries and the other was uninjured, according to the Milford Police Department.

Police said they got a call about the accident at 11:19 a.m. Monday. They suggested that snow from the weekend blizzard may have hampered visibility and played a role in the accident.

A motor vehicle hit the pedestrians, a family of four, who were walking along the shoulder of the busy roadway.

The pedestrians and vehicle were all traveling eastbound in the same direction.

Bridgeport Avenue was closed for a period of time during the investigation but is now open in both directions.

Police are recommending that pedestrians avoid walking along roadways due to the inclement weather conditions.

“If necessary, pedestrians should walk against the direction of traffic so they can see oncoming traffic and stay close to the edge of the roadway,” Police Spokesman Jeff Nielsen said in a news release.

The Milford Police Traffic Division is investigating the accident and is asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call 203-783-4749 or email dsharoh@ci.milford.ct.us.
