Intruder still in critical condition

The 25-year-old naked intruder who was shot last Saturday by a Point Lookout resident remains in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Benjamin Prue, a former standout swimmer from Trumbull, underwent two surgeries after being shot in the chest, police said.

Police described the crime as a home invasion, and said details are still being investigated.

Prue, of Rolesville, N.C., formerly of West Haven and Trumbull, was shot by the homeowner, Gerald Mirto, during the home invasion.

The homeowner told police he went downstairs to investigate a noise and spotted Prue, wearing no clothes, pushing a screen to gain entry to the house.

Mirto said he told Prue to leave his home, but Prue charged at him.

Mirto then shot Prue in the chest.

Prue is under police watch at the hospital. He will not be arraigned on charges, ranging from home invasion to attack on a person over the age of 60, until his medical condition has improved, police said.
