Milford’s 12-14 All-Star team will play Edgewood for the Junior Baseball Section I championship today at 5:30 p.m. at the Orange Complex off Old Tavern Road.
Milford defeated Edgewood, 7-6, on Monday to earn the berth.
Edgewood had defeated Stratford 12-8 to gain the tiebreaker. Stratford had topped Milford 6-2.
In its first game in the round-robin tournament, Stratford’s Dan DeCileo limited Milford to one-run through six innings on Sunday.
“We clearly didn’t put the bat on the ball like we can,” Milford coach Pat Secchiaroli said. “We’re much better than what we showed.”
Anthony Raccio led Milford from the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Matt Jambor, Rob Laggis, Adam Usinger and Matt Rozmus each added a hit for the locals.
Three walks and a pair of first-inning errors gave Stratford a 2-0 lead over Milford starter Dylan Bartel.
In the Milford first, Nick Disabella reached on a walk and stole second.
A batter later, Joe Rudecki hit a line drive to center, which was caught by Chris Loehn, who then nailed Disabella at third trying to tag up on the outfield fly.
In the second, Stratford catcher Jeff Sharnick caught Raccio trying to steal second. Bartel then ground out to Jack Duffy at shortstop and David Delaney made a good scoop of the throw at first.
The locals got on the board in the third when DeCilio walked the bases loaded and a passed ball allowed Usinger to score, making it a 2-1 game.
Stratford added another run in the fourth.
Sharnick led with a hit-by-pitch and John Lagerfeldt followed with a walk. DeCilio then singled to score Sharnick to make it 3-1.
Stratford tacked on another in the sixth after Duffy’s sac fly scored Loehn, who reached on a walk.
Milford got a man on in the fourth, fifth and sixth, but could not score any runs to close the deficit from 4-1.
In the seventh, Stratford strung together three hits to score two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Milford scored again off Nelson in relief.
Rozmus led off with a single and Rudecki was hit two batters later by a pitch.
