Lawmen step into winner’s circle

Kevin Wall scored eight of his game-high 16 points in the final quarter on Tuesday night, leading the Jonathan Law boys basketball team to a 52-47 victory over the Amistad Academy of New Haven, ending the Eagles’ 36-game losing streak which dated back to the 2010-2011 season. The game was played in the James Riccitelli Gym on Law’s campus.
It was the first win at Law for second-year head coach Tim Dooley.
“Obviously, I’m relieved,” Dooley said. “Most of all, I’m happy for our seniors. They’ve worked very hard the last two years. More than anything, this is for them.”
Leading 40-35 heading into the fourth quarter, Law used a spread offense and found Wall open in the middle for lay-ups.
Law (1-15) also got 10 points from Zack Toto.
Amistad Academy, a magnet school playing an independent scheule, saw its record dip to 2-11.
The Eagles have four games remaining, all against Southern Connecticut Conference foes.
They play again on Friday night versus West Haven, weather permitting, and have remaining contests with Sheehan-Wallingford, Xavier of Middletown and East Haven.
“This definitely gives us a lift,” Dooley said. “We’ll take a very positive attitude into our game with West Haven.”
