Herbert I. Ahrens

Herbert I. Ahrens, age 83, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband to the late Corrine “Connie” Palmer Ahrens, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Milford Hospital.

Born on March 5, 1929 in Milford, he was the son of the late William Herbert and Anna Vivian Fox Ahrens.

 

Herbert was manager of the Milford Water Company and when it became the Regional Water Authority, he was an assistant to the Director of Operations and then from 1991 to1994 was the Project Manager of Engineers.

Herb and Connie along with the late Pat Rogers ran the Emma Davis Service for over 30 years, a devoted deacon with the First United Church of Christ in Milford and a 25 year volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Herbert also belonged to the Kiwanis Club and was a 50 year mason with the Ansantawae Lodge both of Milford.

He is survived by his three children, William H. Ahrens of Panama, Lynnette McLellan of Milford and David P Ahrens of Voluntown, three cherished grandchildren, David C. Daniel P and Shannon L. McLellan. He is also survived by his sisters, A. Vivian Ahrens, Marion Wagner and Catherine Broman and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 10:30 am at the First United Church of Christ, 34 W. Main St., Milford, CT. Interment will be private. Friends and family may call on Friday, July 20th from 5 to 8 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ Emma Davis Medical Ministry, 34 W. Main St., Milford, CT 06460.
