Man arrested for falsely yelling ‘he has a gun’ at mall food court

Police charged a 19-year-old Branford man with breach of peace Jan. 16 for allegedly yelling “he has a gun” at the Connecticut Post Shopping Mall.

Police said that Alex Hopkins of Branford was in the food court section around 9 p.m. when a security officer heard him yell about a gun. Police said other patrons who heard him became alarmed.

“Hopkins later admitted to making the statement, saying he was only joking at the time,” police said in a prepared release.

Hopkins was released from police custody on his promise to appear in court Feb. 13.
