James (Jim) A. Porto, age 83, beloved husband of the late Peggy Barnett Porto, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2013 at his home in La Vergne, TN.
He was born on February 13, 1929 in Milford, CT to the late James and Concetta Desarbo Porto.
He attended Milford Public Schools and proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He drove tractor trailers for Yellow Freight until his passing and was a member of the three million mile club in addition to holding most of the records for safe driving and time served for the company. He also owned and operated Porto’s Service Station in Milford during the 1960’s.
Jim was a special man who loved to work, loved to restore cars, and loved helping others. No one loved life more and he had a large circle of extended family and friends.
James is survived by a sister Mary Ann Boufford (Ray) of Milford; Sons James (Genie) Porto, Jr. of Milford and Robert Porto of La Vergne, TN; grandchildren Michele Hume of West Haven, Melissa (Robert) Perry of Bethany, and James Porto, III of Milford. He is also survived by great grandchildren Robert Hume of West Haven, Dana and Morgan Perry of Bethany, Anella Porto of Seymour; and great-great grandson Connor Hume of West Haven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf Street Milford, CT 06460 at 9 A.M.; (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will immediately follow at Kings Highway Cemetery in Milford, CT 06460. Friends and family may call on Friday, January 18th from 4 to 7 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street Milford, CT 06460.
