Doris Monahan Kelly, age 81, a longtime resident of Laurel Beach in Milford and beloved wife, best friend and anchor to John C. Kelly (Jack), passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
A proud American, she was born in the Bronx, NY on March 13, 1931, and was the daughter of the late James V. and Marcella Boylan Monahan.
Doris was a longtime president of McCauley Guild at Lauralton Hall, a board member at Fairfield Prep and President of the Marymount College Mother’s Club. A devout catholic, she was a lector at St. Gabriel’s Church.
Doris has passed her passion of reading on to her children, grandchildren and to countless others through her volunteering at their school and the literary guild. Doris was a lifelong student who lived a good, generous and fulfilled life and was an example to all who knew her. Her greatest joy was her family.
In addition to her husband Jack of 59 years, Doris was a perfect mother to her children, Catherine Sauve (Jerome) of St Louis, MO, Barbara Brunau (Terry) of Milford, Pamela Ralston (Jim) of Milford, John Kelly, Jr. (Claire) of Yorktown Heights, NY, Jennifer Kelly Greene of Milford and James Kelly (Hillary) of Milford. She was a loving Nanny to her grandchildren, Dillon Broderick, Michael Croke, Kathleen Croke, Terence and Christopher Brunau, Patrick Kelly, Kevin and Kate Greene and James and John Ralston; mother-in-law to Michael Croke and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her daughter, Marcella Kelly Croke and her sister, Marcella Cianciolo.
A Mass of Christian Burial (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH) will be held on Friday, January 18th at 11:15 am at St. Gabriel’s Church, 26 Broadway, Milford. Committal to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milford. Friends and family may call at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460 on Thursday, January 17th from 5PM until 8PM.
