The United Way of Milford has pledged $50,000 to the Bridges’ Give & Grow capital campaign, bringing the mental health agency closer to its $1.6 million fund-raising goal.

Bridges will name the walkway at the entrance to its’ new Moses M. Malkin Center building “The United Way,” in honor of the donation. United Way CEO Gary Johnson said, “Our objective is to ensure that dollars donated to the United Way go to fiscally sound agencies that provide vital services in our community.

The work that Bridges does with people who need behavioral healthcare services in Milford, as well as other area towns, is critical and contributes greatly to the quality of life for all of us. We are confident that investing in Bridges’ expansion project is a decision that will pay off as soon as the doors open to 941 Bridgeport Avenue, as the agency will be able to serve more individuals and families that need help with mental health issues. ” Barry Kasdan, Bridges’ president and CEO, said he is grateful for the partnership with the United Way.

“They are the financial engine that drives the many agencies that serve Milford, collaborating and maximizing resources for the collective good,” Kasdan said. “Their contribution to our building campaign tells the community that Bridges provides solutions and results that benefit this entire community.”

Bridges needs the expanded space on its Bridgeport Avenue campus to meet the growing community need for mental health services. Bridges broke ground at 941 Bridgeport Avenue last April for the 5,000-square-foot Moses M. Malkin Center at Bridges.

The new building is named for Moses Malkin, one of the founders of Milford Mental Health and the first president of Bridges’ board of directors. Hannah Malkin presented Bridges with a lead gift in honor of her late husband to start the capital campaign last year.

Bridges is a non-profit, community-based provider of mental health and addiction services, emergency and crisis intervention and integrated primary care services in Milford, Orange, West Haven and surrounding towns. The 57-year-old agency offers comprehensive services for children, families, young adults and adults.

Additional naming opportunities within the new facility and a commemorative brick program are available for interested individuals or businesses. For more information contact Development Director Marcy Hotchkiss at 203-878-6365 or mhotchkiss@bridgesmilford.org.
