Arthur Ceccarelli, who taught history for many years at Milford High School and Foran High School before retiring, died Wednesday, July 11.
In addition to inspiring many students with his teaching, Ceccarelli was a former Major League baseball player.
A left handed pitcher, Ceccarelli was signed to the Dodgers as a bonus player. He went on to play five years in the Major Leagues with the Kansas City Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs.
He was the only player to make the Major Leagues in the Greater New Haven area at that time. His baseball career was briefly interrupted while serving in the Korean War, according to an obituary notice.
During the off seasons, he attended classes at Southern Connecticut State University. He also was a pitching coach at the university. While coaching, he taught at Milford High and later Foran High School.
A memorial mass and celebration of his life will take place Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at Holy Infant Church. There will be no hours for visitation and burial will be private.
