Conner Falaguerra from Jonathan Law caught three passes, and his seven-yard touchdown reception was called back because of a holding penalty, when the New Haven County All-Stars lost a 23-13 decision to Fairfield County in the 16th annual Hall of Fame Classic in West Haven on Saturday night.
After the penalty negated Falaguerra’s catch in the back of the end zone, New Haven took a 13-0 lead on Kyle Pulek of Cheshire High’s second field goal to start the third quarter.
Fairfield County scored the next 23 points to garner the victory.
Tyler Vallie threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Sheehan of Wallingford’s Brodie Corless on fourth-and-goal for New Haven County’s only score.
Bunnell’s J.J. Bivona won defensive MVP honors for Fairfield, returning an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to put his squad ahead for good, 16-13.
His high-school teammate at Bunnell, Jawad Chisholm, caught a pair of touchdown passes to win offensive MVP honors for Fairfield County.
Matt Paola of Pomperaug added a field goal to account for the Fairfield County scoring.
Pulek kicked two field goals for New Haven County (29, 42 yards).
Ansonia’s Jake LaRovera, who blocked a punt and had two tackles for losses, was named the New Haven County defensive MVP.
Pulek was named the offensive MVP.
