Criteria decides match

The Foran High wrestling team took on fourth-ranked Xavier of Middletown only to lose 37-36 when a tie at 36 was broken by criteria at the end of the SCC match in Milford.
Xavier won three of the last five matches to force a tie that the defending Class LL and State Open champion Falcons snapped on a tiebreaker with a 4-3 edge in pins.
Xavier used three falls to take an 18-0 lead before Foran’s Zach Hubler scored a 10-3 decision at 220 pounds to get the Lions on the board.
Chris Kyak’s 1:57 pin at heavyweight was the second of five straight wins for Foran.
Liam Callahan pinned in 1:00 at 106 pounds, Jacob Pouliot pinned in 44 seconds at 113 and Jubilee Whit was awarded a forfeit at 120 to make it 27-18 Lions.
Xavier won by forfeit and fall before C.J. Luth won a 12-0 major decision to give Foran a 31-30 lead.
Clay Callahan followed a Xavier decision with a 21-8 win by technical fall good for five team points at 152 pounds.
Xavier’s win  by decision at 160 tied things and forced the tiebreaker.
