Ralph Nader will discuss latest book at Barnes and Noble

Ralph Nader will speak about his recently released book Unstoppable: The Emerging Left-Right Alliance to Dismantle the Corporate State at Barnes and Noble in Milford on Saturday, July 26 at 5 p.m.

Nader will also answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his books purchased in the store in advance or at the event.

Nader’s documented criticism of government and industry has had a widespread effect on public awareness and bureaucratic power, store officials said. Time Magazine described him as “U.S.’s toughest customer.” Nader first made headlines in 1965 with his book Unsafe at Any Speed, a scathing indictment that lambasted the auto industry for producing unsafe vehicles.

Since 1966, Nader has been responsible for at least eight major federal consumer protection laws such as the motor vehicle safety laws and Safe Drinking Water Act; the launching of federal regulatory agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environment Protection Agency (EPA), and Consumer Product Safety Administration; the recall of millions of defective motor vehicles, and access to government through the Freedom of Information Act of 1974.

One of Nader’s current concerns is the growing “imperialism” of multinational corporations and of a dangerous convergence of corporate and government power. A magazine he founded in 1980, Multinational Monitor, tracks the global intrusion of multinational corporations and their impact on developing nations, labor and the environment. His advocacy work is found in the U.S. civil justice system, banking and insurance industries and financial sector. When asked to define himself, Nader reportedly responded, “Full-time citizen, the most important office in America for anyone to achieve.”
