An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Walker was well known in athletic circles throughout the region, particularly as a coach of youth and high school football, basketball and baseball. He had served as a coach at all three high schools over the years: Jonathan Law High School, Milford High School, and Joseph A. Foran High School in football, basketball, and baseball. He has mentored literally thousands of young people throughout his years in the district.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Nancy, and two children – Whitney and Garrett.
“Ken Walker was an outstanding person who excelled in all he did,” said Michael Cummings, assistant superintendent. “As a teacher and a coach, he developed his students and athletes to their greatest potential. He had a great sense of humor, was generous to all, and helped all who knew him. His death is a great loss to our community, and an even greater loss to his wonderful family. We will miss him.”
Clifford Bugyi, a longtime colleague and friend, said Mr. Walker was a “gentle soul.”
“He saw the best in everyone – and absolutely loved working with kids. He was dedicated to what he did – and always gave 100%. This is a huge loss for all of us,” Bugyi said.
School Principal John Barile sent a message to school staff, telling them about the loss.
“Mr. Walker has been a part of the school and Milford community for decades,” Barile’s message said. “Personally, Kenny was a friend and mentor to me for the past 18 years. On behalf of the Foran faculty and staff, I know you will join me in keeping Mr. Walker and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. We will miss him dearly.”
