Scott, Kundu earn SCC scholar-athlete honors

Jonathan Law’s Brittany Scott and Soumya Kundu have been named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for April.
The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program, now in its eighth year, honors outstanding young men and women each month during the 2013-14 academic year.
Brittany Scott
A three-sport standout (swimming, indoor track, outdoor track) for the Eagles, Scott currently sports a 4.24 grade point average and ranks in the top 10 percent of the class while taking nine Advanced Placement courses.
She is the captain of the girls outdoor track team and has received High Honors all four years of her career.
Jonathan Law AD Mike Hoggatt said, “Brittany is an outstanding student-athlete and leader who has made the most of her time at Jonathan Law High School.”
Soumya Kundu
A senior on the Jonathan Law boys tennis team, Kundu has been an exceptional performer in the classroom. Kundu has taken 10 Advanced Placement courses and currently ranks in the top 1 percent of the class with a 4.57 grade point average.
He has been named to the High Honor roll all four years and is a CAPT Scholar and AP Scholar.
Jonathan Law AD Mike Hoggatt said, “Soumya is a great example of a student athlete who represents Law strongly in the classroom and on the tennis court.”
Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities such as: being a positive role model; helping teammates overcome adversity; showing a commitment to self-improvement; or putting the needs of the team before themselves.
Sports Center of CT/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month recipients and receive a certificate, commemorative tee-shirt and a SportsCenter of Connecticut activity pass.
“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” said SCC Commissioner Al Carbone.
“This conference has been proud of its success for the last 20 years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”
Founded in 1994, the Southern Connecticut Conference is in its 20th season of competition in 2013-14 with 22 member-schools and nearly 23,000 students. Recognized as the premier athletic league in the state of Connecticut, SCC member schools have captured 349 state championships since the league’s inception. More importantly, the SCC is recognized for its outstanding non-athletic programs and events, which attempt to break down barriers and build bridges of understanding to its students.
