Jaime Kader and Shawn Cariglio from Foran High were named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for May — the ninth and final month of the academic year.
Now concluding its sixth year, The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program honored 105 outstanding young men and women during 2011-12.
The captain of the Lions’ girls tennis team, Kader is a CAPT Scholar with an impressive 3.60 grade point average.
A four-year varsity letterwinner, she earned All-SCC honors in double play in 2011 and helped the team to two consecutive Division II regular-season titles.
Foran girls tennis coach Dan Hammond said:
“Jaime has been a consistent player and leader for the team and is a terrific role model for our younger players.”

A basketball and baseball standout and captain for the Lions, Cariglio has been an impressive performer in the classroom.
A CAPT Scholar, he sports a 3.58 grade point average and has earned academic excellence awards in english, geometry and spanish.
On the diamond, Cariglio earned All-Hammonasset Division honors this spring as the Lions tied for the division title.
Foran baseball coach Ken Walker said: “Shawn is one of the most well-rounded student athletes I have ever coaches. He is a true team leader.”
Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities.
Sports Center of CT/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month recipients and receive a certificate, commemorative tee-shirt and a SportsCenter of Connecticut activity pass.
“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” SCC Commissioner Al Carbone said.
“This conference has been proud of its success for the last 18 years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”
